• Changing the registration of ATV's / UTV's from July 1 to April 1 to better match the riding season

Remembering Our Sports Ambassadors

The Wisconsin ATV Association has dedicated three dates for ambassadors to our sport who have lost their lives.

The following dates have been dedicated:

June 27th - Paul "Bud" Auer Day
September 30th - Spencer McElroy Day
November 2nd - Roger Steinbach Day

All three individuals have drastically improved our sport at either a state, local or both level of involvement. They have dedicated countless hours and given great resources to further improve the image and sport in general.

AG says OK to using county roads to link private ATV trails

Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen today issued a formal opinion to Trempealeau County Corporation Counsel Rian W. Radtke concluding that a county board may designate short segments of county public highway as all-terrain vehicle routes even if such designations primarily benefit a private recreational organization, provided that no county funds are involved.

The opinion reasons that no public funds would be used for a private purpose ,and notes that the county board would be required to consider such items as the safety of motorists and pedestrians and the economic and recreational value of each segment before a designation is made.

The request was made by a private ATV group of about 50 members. The group wants to link private trails they have developed on private land. The trails are only open to club members and others who pay a fee.

Remembering Roger Steinbach - President of Woodland Trails ATV Club

On November 2nd 2011, our sport lost another dedicated volunteer, Roger Steinbach. Roger was the president of the Woodland Trails ATV Club (http://www.woodlandtrailsatv.com/) as well as a repeated top 10 Ride Smart Trail Patrol Ambassador. He dedicated a lot of his life to helping improve our sport in Wisconsin.

Cozy Corner Trails Inc. Teaches WIDNR ATV Safety Class & Pays Students Fees

Recently, volunteer instructors Greg Giese and Jim & Sue Smedegard, members of Cozy Corner Trails, Inc. (ATV & Snowmobile Club) in Danbury, WI, taught ATV safety to 17 students from Douglas, Burnett, and Polk Counties in Wisconsin, along with students from Minnesota. Assisting the instructors was Austin Reed, Burnett County Youth Rep to AWSC (Association of Wisconsin Snowmobile Clubs) as he works toward becoming a Junior Instructor. Mark Little, WDNR Recreational Safety Warden, spoke with the students on Saturday, as well.

All 17 students passed the 2-day, six hour course, for which all fees were paid by Cozy Corner Trails, Inc. The club members felt that it was well worth the money to hopefully avoid any further accidents resulting in injury or death to young people in our area.

All Clark Co ATV Trails Are Closed Until December 15th

During the new fall closure of Nov. 1 to Dec. 15th ATVs can only operate on designated
trails from the close of hunting hours to 11:00 p.m. This provision is intended for any
hunting related activity including the transportation of tree stands and dead game.
