Clark County ATV Trails Open On May 14th!
The Clark County ATV trails will open May 14th; however the trails remain wet and caution must be used. Mudding and excessive acceleration can lead to substantial long term damage and high cost for repairs. Please use good judgment and ride responsibly to help protect the trails from damage and reduce costly maintenance.
Off trail riding will not be tolerated and citations will be issued. The ATV operator will also be responsible for any damaged caused while operating illegally.
Please remember to check the trail updates before you plan to recreate as trail conditions do change throughout the open riding season. Clark Co Forestry & Parks strive to provide diverse and extended recreational opportunities for everyone but trails being open are never a guarantee.
• UTV’S/Side-by-Sides Clark County is now part of the state UTV pilot program; UTV’s
will be allowed on the Clark Co ATV trail system starting May 14th, 2011. Please refer to www.wiutv.org for additional information.
• Trail from Intersection #2 to Resewood Ave will be closed for a few weeks.
• Trail from Intersection #16 to Intersection #17 will be closed until further notice. A trail rehabilitation project is required on this segment of trail.

Black River State Forest Conditions
All-terrain Vehicle (ATV) Trails
ATV Trails will re-open one day early this year on Saturday May 14, 2011. This year the State Forest along with Jackson and Clark counties will participate in the UTV pilot. UTVs will be allowed on the trail from May 14 through October 16, but not during the winter season. Please see the UTV Pilot Program for more information about the program, including the definition of UTV that can ride on the trails. The pilot program will allow the State Forest and counties to assess the viability of adding UTVs to the trail system on a permanent basis. As part of the assessment a user survey will be available online in the fall.
This spring the state forest will be working on rehabilitating the ATV trails running just south of the 7th street parking lot. Much of this trail was closed periodically last year due to wet conditions. All wetland crossings in this section of trail will be upgraded similar to those that have already occurred north and south of the Highway 54 parking lot. These upgrades will reduce the amount of weather-related trail closures and protect the long-term integrity of the system. During this time, this section of trail [PDF 1MB] will be closed to traffic on Monday through Thursday's and open Friday through Sunday. We appreciate your patience during this time.
ATV regulations and information pertaining to the state forest trails are included in the following links:

Tuscobia State Trail Temp Closure
Temporary Trail Closure. An intense thunderstorm this morning, with winds reaching 55 mph, has rendered a large section of the Tuscobia State Trail – from Winter east to Park Falls – impassable because of downed trees. The DNR has closed this section of the trail effective immediately. A crew is cutting away the blockages and clearing the trail. Trail manager Kathy Pospychalla, who is part of that crew, said she believes they will have the trail open Thursday.

Forest Service notifies motorized trail users of continued wet conditions
RHINELANDER, Wis. (May 9, 2011) -- The U.S. Forest Service is notifying the public that wet conditions still exist on Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest motorized trails. Because of these conditions the CNNF is asking people to not ride in wet areas.
Although the trails officially opened May 1, late spring weather conditions and additional rain in the forecast continue to make trails prone to erosion and other damage. The CNNF is asking that people choose to not ride in areas that are wet. Trail conditions should improve once
the trails dry out.
Motorized use under these current poor conditions can lead to substantial long term damage and high cost for repairs. “We hope the public will use good judgment and ride responsibly to help us protect their trails from potential damage and reduce costly trail repairs and maintenance,” added Forest Supervisor Paul Strong.
